ABOUT US
Growing
Procedures
Cahaba Clubs Herbal Outpost uses three hydroponic
growing methods; the Ebb and Flow Method using drips;
NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) using oasis cubes; and
container grown using perlite as the growing medium.

|
The Ebb and
Flow Method utilizes a drip system and growing medium suchs perlite. Aluminum coated trays are set on a gentle slope,
allowing a nutrient solution to slowly trickle its way through
the medium. The nutrient solution drains into a channel at the
end of the coated trays and dispenses into a tank. The nutrient
solution is tested while in the tank and adjusted to the proper
Ph and E/C levels. The nutrient solution is then pumped out and
filtered through the system again. Perlite is also used as the
growing medium in our container grown plants in the shade house
and nursery areas. |

EBB AND FLOW METHOD

In an NFT system the plant roots are suspended in a
grow channel where nutrient solution passes constantly keeping
them moist, but not water logged. The nutrient solution is then
filtered through the tanks, checked for Ph and E/C levels and
pumped back out through the system |

We also grow in containers using perlite as the
growing medium. The perlite is sprayed with water soluble
fertilizers that provide the appropriate nutrients to the crops.

CONTAINERS USING PERLITE |

Through the growing process, the plants receive the
exact nutrients they need in order to be the finest quality
produce. Harvesting time begins early in the morning,
prohibiting the heat of the day from wilting the plant. Products
are handled with extreme care to prevent any leaves or stems
from damage. This special care ensures that our herbs hold the
oil that provides the herb with its flavor and aroma. The Ph
and E/C (electro-conductivity) levels are checked four times
daily to ensure that the plants are not stressing due to lack of
fertilizers and trace elements. The 6,480 drip lines are also
checked three times daily to ensure that the plants are
getting the water they need.
Cahaba Clubs Herbal Outpost takes pride in
every step of the production process. We begin our process by
preparing the bays with perlite or NFT in staging for seed
germination. The perlite bays are misted six times daily.
This goes on for a week or until the plants are an inch tall,
after which they will continue on the drip system. The seeds
that are germinating in the oasis cube will receive constant
water on the bottom of the cube.
Pest Management — WE ARE PESTICIDE-FREE
Cahaba Clubs
Herbal Outpost uses integrated pest management programs focused
around a philosophy used by organic growers. Farming techniques
are used to produce herbs that are free from hormones and
pesticide residues, creating both safe working conditions for
our staff and products that are farm fresh, healthy, and hearty.
We are committed to protecting the environment in
which we grow our specialty products, ensuring the longevity of our farm.
We use
predator insects to control two spotted spider mites and red
spider mites. We use natural insecticides, including Azatins and
Pyrethrums, which are actually labeled for post harvest
spraying. In layman's terms, this means the product is extremely
safe!
The
greenhouse culture assists in fighting algae, eliminating the
food source for white fly and fungus gnat larvae, thus breaking
the lifecycle of the insect. |
