Broccoli and
cabbage contain a chemical component
(indole-3-carbinol) that may assist in combating breast
cancer by converting a cancer-promoting estrogen into a
more protective variety. Broccoli and spouts contain
phytochemical sulforaphine, a product of glucoraphanin,
believed to aid in preventing colon and rectal cancer.
Kale contains
nitrogen compounds (indoles) that may help stop the
conversion of certain lesions to cancerous cells in
estrogen-sensitive tissues. The phytochemicals found in
kale are thought to suppress tumor growth and block
cancer-causing substances from reaching their targets.
Watercress is
a rich source of vitamins A, B and C. It also contains
two groups of compounds called phenylethyl
isothiocyanates (PEITC) and methylsulphinylalkyl, that
may work in tandem to attack cancer cells, inhibit
activation of cancer triggers, and induce the body’s
cells to resist cancer mopping up toxins.
Tomatoes and
watermelons are an excellent source of lycopene
that may help prevent prostate cancer.
Chili peppers
and jalapenos may
help neutralize certain cancer causing substances and
help prevent stomach cancer.
Flax may help
protect against colon cancer and heart disease.
Red Grapes
may inhibit the enzymes that can stimulate cancer-cell
growth.
Mushrooms may
help to build the immune system and may attack cancer
cells, preventing them from multiplying.
Nuts may help
suppress the growth of cancers.
Oranges and lemons
may help stimulate
cancer-killing immune cells and break down
cancer-causing substances.
Tofu (soy products)
may provide a potent
inhibitor to growth and spread of cancer cells, may
lower the risk of breast cancer.
Teas (green and black)
appear to help prevent
cancer cells from dividing.
Storing Products
Most of the vegetables and fruits you receive have been
picked within 24 hours, providing you with a higher
quality product and longer life. There are a few things
you can do to ensure your products stay as fresh as
possible.
-
Lettuce – Our
“living” lettuce will stay fresh up to 3 weeks.
Store lettuce in the vegetable drawer of your
refrigerator. Either cut the lettuce and store in a
sealed bag or keep as packaged.
Our lettuce is
germinated and grown in the oasis cube (attached to your
lettuce). The lettuce remains “living” as all the roots
are attached.
-
Herbs – Herbs are
very sensitive and are best used within a week of
cutting. Some are best stored at room temperature
while others will last longer if stored in the
refrigerator. You can also dry the herbs and store
them for future use.
